  • It is on the island of mageroya, with its 307 m high over the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea. Fantastic visit, even at this time of year. It has a tourist space with shops, and food. It's worth checking out.

  • HONNINGSV-G 14.11.2019 Population: 2,415 Coordinates: Latitude: 70" 58' N Longitude: 25° 58' O Language: Norwegian Currency: Norwegian Krone (NOK) Honningsvag is located on a northern width of 70' 58' in the municipality of North Cape on the lnsel Magerya. Despite its small size, it is Norway's largest fishing port with a significant focus on fish processing. The town is located in a bay on the south side of the island, while the famous North Cape Visitor Centre is located on the north side. He claimed the title of "northernmost city in the world", but is therefore in competition with Hammerfest (Norway), Barrow (Alaska) and Longyearbyen (Spitzbergen). A 1997 law states that a Norwegian village must have at least 5,000 inhabitants before it is declared an official city. However, Honningsvag, with its nearly 2,500 inhabitants, was granted town rights as early as 1996 and was thus not subject to the new law. The weather is literally unpredictable, so you should expect rain, snow, fog and clouds during the visit. The dark polar night lasts from November 20to January 22. During this time, the sun does not rise. Despite these extreme light conditions, trees grow in many private gardens in Honningsvag, which rarely rise to higher than 3 to 4 m. People have lived in the area for 10,000 years. The sea was certainly the main food source for the prehistoric settlement. The ice-free waters of the southwestern Barents Sea have rich fishing grounds, even today. In addition, tourism is an important economic factor of the present. The upswing in Honningsvag began towards the end of the 19th century, when merchants from the neighbouring Hammerfest set up branches here, and trade developed. Like most municipalities in Finnmark, Honningsvag was completely destroyed by the retreating German forces in 1944. Only the church stopped. The town has been rebuilt and now has one of the busiest ports in Norway, which is called up by several thousand ships every year. The church of Honningsvag in kirkegata was built in 1885 and is one of only 12 churches in northern Norway that escaped the flames in the autumn of 1944. During the reconstruction after the war, the church served as an emergency shelter for a large part of the inhabitants, as it was the only building that emerged unscathed from the war. The Arctico Ice Bar is a new visitor attraction of the city and is located in the Sjogata 1A at the harbour. It is rebuilt every year and has an ice bar from the lakes of the island of Magerya. All walls, tables and seats, the lglu and the frames with images of the Arctic are made of ice. A non-alcoholic cocktail is recommended in this polar winter wonderland - all year round! In the centre of Honningsvag there is the Nordkappmuseet, a small museum near the harbour in Fiskeriveien 4. Every year, around 10,000 people from all over the world visit it. This fascinating attraction not only presents and documents the coastal culture and fishing industry of the province of Finnmark, but is also the city museum of the North Cape Commune. Since its opening in 1982, the museum has shown at least 5 different exhibitions per year. You can take part in an English-language guided tour for a small fee. The ATV Center (All-Terrain Vehicle Off-road vehicle, known as quad) is located near the harbour. On an organized excursion you will be equipped with the necessary equipment and will receive instructions on how to ride a quad bike. You ride on a slope that leads up the Nato mountain and get to know the area in a different way. Further information: The island of Magery bears a suitable name (translated: barren, inhospitable lnsel) with its gloomy, bleak landscape without trees, but with snow and frost 200 days a year. Even in midsummer you can still see remnants of snow...

  • Good restaurant and cafe on site, great information on hand, a good 3D film and very informative exhibitions - first time I've really understood the 'Midnight sun'
  • A very nice information center with 2 gift shops and theater. We went on a warm day. There's no AC
  • Lovely place, kind people in the shop! Wind and snow blowing around the obelisk... 😄👍
  • Amazing place, well organized. First check the excellent movie on floor -3. Need at least 1:45 hours at this place.
  • A bit bleak up there but the people were very friendly and plenty to see
