The Hamsun Centre

The Hamsun Centre is located by the vicarage ruins on the banks of the Glimma River in Presteid in Hamarøy Municipality in Northern Norway. The centre is situated in a beautiful cultural landscape surrounded by nature that remains virtually as untouched as it was in Hamsun’s time. The centre’s tower offers an impressive view over the realm of Hamsun, the area that inspired the author to write such world renowned books as Pan, Growth of the Soil and Wayfarers.

  • Magical experience. Knut Hamsun is controversial, and the Center does not try to hide this. Built is wonderful, and with lookout records around to the beautiful nature of the experience is just better. The staff are pleasant, utadvente, engaged, and thoughtful. Definitely recommended, and remember, it's bigger than it looks.

  • Rare good! Great architecture, interesting exhibition. Good reception of the hosts and not to mention very exciting guided tours and lectures. Great added value in to attend the tour. in order to understand the interaction between the Hamsun's writing and the Museum built. Can with advantage set of one or more whole days to the place, also because there are many nice places to sit and read in books or in Hamsun some of the other books from the small museum store.
