Fredriksten Festning (Fredriksten Fortress), Halden

#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Ostfold
At Fredriksten Festning (Fredriksten Fortress), view the remaining fortifications of the hilltop walled city that has played an important role in Norwegian military history. Built in 1661, the fortress was often besieged but never defeated, which is a point of pride for Halden residents. Most notably, Swedish king Charles XII was shot here in 1718. Climb the ramparts for great views over Halden, the harbor, and the fjord running between Norway and Sweden. Visit the museum within the walls, which displays various political and military history exhibits. You'll find various eateries inside. Keep an eye on small children, as there are no railings or ropes guarding the drop-offs. Fredriksten fortress drawers never, neither this time where it was also held large veteran car hits and a few days before had been singing songs at the border. The view is great and this day swarmed it with life in Halden's streets. To happiness with the good atmosphere!

This is one of Europe's finest fortifications! Fantastic views of the Halden and surrounding areas. Here it is nice to stroll around the historic surroundings, visit one or more of the venues, the Museum or the smithy, where we got a nice tour! Fortress is also the Centre for various cultural events. When we were there, rigged the down after "singing songs on the border", but inside the fortress was all ready for the family musical about "the White Lady". Unfortunately, we were not with us this notion, but got rather than experience a collection of Classic Cars a rarely seen anything like it. It was American days in Halden, with limit hits for proud owners of Classic Cars. This bar both the city and the camping area at the fortress of Fun and unexpected., for us! It is apparently on the Fortress it happens!

As Østfolding I have deep feelings associated with this military fortress and fortress that has meant so much for Norwegian history. This was the castle that felled Karl XII of Sweden. The Castle has had a central place in Norwegian military history, especially during the Danish time. It is a magnificent and aesthetic quickly as rising towering up of Halden-pot. O'clock is hilly and fit nicely for families with children from 7 years old. The elderly and frail can find it challenging to go around and up and down the stairs. Families with stroller and infant likewise. It is a great place to take a picnic and eat your own, but there are also restaurants there as well. Everyone can still enjoy to park the car near the restaurant at the back of the Fort. The place is not handicap friendly. There are dirt roads and cobble roads on the fortress and very bad with asphalt roads. It is very much historical sus and atmosphere at the Fredriksten fortress, Halden, with spectacular views of the city. There are steep slopes in some places and poorly secured, so that adults should keep children carefully supervised and they ensue well on. In more recent times held "All song on the border" that is sent via the TV2 every summer. In late summer, first weekend in august is held the race time Limit with the aim at Fredriksten fortress; a fitness race for nearly all levels of fitness.

What a great place, full of history with no H&S to restrict your movement over the walls. Everywhere has information boards in Norwegian and English. Wonderful coffee shop (reasonably priced) to refresh yourself half way round. Great day out.
