Fredriksten Festning (Fredriksten Fortress), Halden

(4.8/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
At Fredriksten Festning (Fredriksten Fortress), view the remaining fortifications of the hilltop walled city that has played an important role in Norwegian military history. Built in 1661, the fortress was often besieged but never defeated, which is a point of pride for Halden residents. Most notably, Swedish king Charles XII was shot here in 1718. Climb the ramparts for great views over Halden, the harbor, and the fjord running between Norway and Sweden. Visit the museum within the walls, which displays various political and military history exhibits. You'll find various eateries inside. Keep an eye on small children, as there are no railings or ropes guarding the drop-offs. • After a few moments the Fredriksten fortress history ended up with the fact that the reserve throughout the day to the Citadel. It was a good decision, and carefully all places be sufficient for an impressive number of steps in the koluten step in the meter. It was available in a sufficient amount of information, and the tourist-infolla got rented audio guidet, which opened in the fortress of history and stories. It's got to move surprisingly freely around, that was a great thing-good shoes so book in the leg, and the proper safety precautions to follow in the narrow paths on the steep slopes of the/. During our visit to children was also designed to be a private (suitable for children) the ghost path, which is, of course, we had to test, even though the children existed the ointment. Entertaining it still was.
