Brekkefossen, Flam

4.7
#2 of 8 in Parks in Aurland Municipality
Marvel at the long drop of Brekkefossen, a waterfall pouring from a hanging valley through a twisting gully. Though it can be viewed in full from the Flam railway, up close you can only take in about 115 m (377 ft) of the gorgeous waterfall's full 545.5 m (1,790 ft)--this perhaps accounts for its being generally overlooked. Wear sturdy shoes on the steep trek to the viewing point at the falls' base, where you will also be rewarded by beautiful sights of Flam, a nearby village. Take a walking stick if you need a little extra help to climb the trail. • The trip to the Brekkefossen waterfall takes about an hour and is a must to tackle if you are in Fläm. It is a pretty steep climb, so sturdy shoes are useful and if it rains you should keep in mind that it is smooth. Above arrived at the Brekkefossen you have a nice view over the Valley and also a beautiful waterfall. You find that if there is a cruise boat has come just to do can be very busy, but it's well worth it. To a quieter piece to come you can also make the climb from the Brekkefossen further up (this route is clearly arrived and then you can come above the waterfall). Here you have a nice end point and also beautiful views and more rest. This is a relatively steep climb, but only takes about half an hour (one trip) extra. However, look out for cables that sometimes hang on the route!

  • Great if it is your first waterfall in Norway, a very definition of average after some time. But the waterfall itself aside, a very good Flåm viewpoint. Assuming you will be trying to reach here from ...  more »
  • It's gorgeous, and the panorama of Flåm is lovely. However, from the main town, you gotta walk through many farms before reaching the little wooden sign "Brekkefossen". Then the steep climb up for wha...  more »

  • Absolutely stunning views to be had from the top. The path is a bit steep at times and tends to be muddy, but should be doable to most people. Best to wear your hiking shoes though.
  • Great views from the top and well worth it - but go prepared for a hike up a slippery/muddy/rocky path. I saw people in sandals and others slipping in converse. Madness.
  • Worth the walk, expect it to be difficult in the wet. Option to climb further, but no tracks wouldn't recommend unless your a hiker/bush walker. No tourist up top 👍
  • Requires a certain level of fitness and please have good shoes. There is mud.
  • it take 20 minutes to famous location where most photographed place. also, you can follow up higher trail course but it more sloping-harder(about 20min), only end to just small waterfall.
