Saltstraumen, Bodo

4.3
Saltstraumen represents a narrow strait with the strongest tidal current in the world, which makes it popular among divers and anglers. The current produces maelstroms and whirlpools up to 10 m (33 ft) in diameter and 5 m (16 ft) deep. Walk up to the bridge to see the foaming stream from above, or descend to the waterfront to view it up close. The water swarms with various species of fish like cod, halibut, and coalfish, the regional specialty. You can fish from the bridge, the shore, or a boat. The natural phenomenon of the Eddy is definitely nice. Regularly repeats 4 times a day. But times are on display at the tourist office in Bodo. I expected a most impressive Gorge, however it is nice to see.

The Saltstraumen lies about 30 km southeast of Bodö. This trip was offered us organized for more than €50. Because it was too expensive for us, we asked for public transport. You can easily take the public bus from the bus station or from the center of Bodö up there. The fare (can be paid with credit card on the bus!) costs €5 per person each way! The bus stop is 5 minutes until it is on the tidal current. If you are at the right time there (running out both at herienströmendem water) the flow and the strudel is very good to watch. Also scenic, the area is very beautiful. The nearly one-hour ride was worth it for us! The tide table and the bus timetable can be obtained at the tourist office in Bodö. The Museum there, which is mentioned in some brochures, is closed for eingien years!

When passing over the bridge you wonder even where exactly the tremendous natural spectacle is... under the bridge at the lookout point arrived, you no longer get out then the amazement. Great, you should not miss.

Who is in the area should take a little trip to the strongest tidal current in the world. You will observe here various vortex at high tide. Through our schedule, we came to the tide, but even then we were able to observe some strudel.
