  • This is a very nice museum depicting the merchants' life in an original building from the late Hanseatic times - including dried stockfish! Join one of the short tours, which give you a good initial impression of the museum highlights. Make sure to also visit the other part of this museum, as well as the fishery museum - they're all included in your entrance ticket, and there is a shuttle bus going between the three sites.
  • Small but well preserved little museum showing how the early settlers of Bergen were conducting their business in this little home. Shows some nifty inventions of those days and how they spent their time working and sleeping there. Got a bundle deal of entry to 3 museums (Hanseatic, fishery) including this, plus a bus that takes you around them.

Where to stay in Bergen

As a major Norwegian city, Bergen offers accommodations--and just about everything else--at a high price. Try to stay in the picturesque Bryggen wharf area near the fish market, or in the city center. If you’re looking for lively nightlife, check out rooms close to the city’s university. To find less-expensive lodging, search for hostels in the city center and campsites just out of town. Alternatively, live like a local by staying in a small guesthouse.
