Bryggens Museum - Bymuseet i Bergen, Bergen
(3.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Constructed over the remains of the first settlement at Bryggen, Bryggens Museum - Bymuseet i Bergen introduces visitors to everyday life in the harbor during medieval times. Parts of the dock were destroyed by fire in 1955, and excavations at that time revealed a number of objects that offer insights into trade, shipping, and medieval crafts. Take a walk through Bryggen's past, which starts at the museum and continues through historical alleys and courtyards lined with old wooden buildings, all the way to the Hanseatic Museum. The oldest buildings date back to the 12th century. Check out the exhibit on runes and the Viking boat. • The Bergen card, we were in Brygge and then we were able to visit free of charge with the map in this museum. It is worth seeing, what is there shown and exhibited. You can understand how the first of the buildings in the immediate vicinity have arisen. The whole thing is wallchart on English and Norwegian explained. This should not enough who can connect also a guided tour. . The light in this museum would appear to us to be a little too cozy. With some brightness our enlightenment and clarity would have been slightly better. A nice visit there.

  • This museum is a little secluded North of Bergen. In recent years opened the Museum in a modern building. Was used in the frame of a wooden ship, medieval sword and cross, daily necessities and exhibits, see the history of this area. Is not a must-see, if I have time I can enter.

  • Beautiful and historic. Wander around the old streets and enjoy the character and charm of the area. Lovely to do on a sunny day and imagine what life would have been like.

  • A little too small, but a must see if you're in Bergen. Situated around a settlement from around 1100 AD, you can't get closer to history.
  • The museum itself is a little dated but do the guided tour for 120 NOK. They do a tour in english at 11 and 12. The tour takes you through Bryggen Museum, Bryggen itself and the Hanseatic Museum in 1,5 hours. Ticket price for both museums included.
  • They've done a great job of allowing us to visit Bergen's past "on site". All the information was clear to us as an English speaking couple. It was esecially good to be there to see the Runes and Rune Sticks so clearly explained.
  • A great place to learn a about Bergen back in the day. Nice price for a guided tour.
  • It is not a Museum, beautiful part relating to crafts of yesteryear but useless that relating to texts written in runic
