Trip Planner: Europe / Norway / Western Norway / More og Romsdal / Alesund / Jugendstilsenteret and Kunstmuseet Kube
After a major fire in 1904 in Alesund, the entire town was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, which was prevalent at the time. Jugendstilsenteret and Kunstmuseet Kube seeks to preserve this architectural heritage. Architect Hagbarth Schytte-Berg designed the building, which was constructed between 1905 and 1907 and originally housed a pharmacy with the pharmacist's apartment above it. The exhibit consists of three floors of Norwegian Art Nouveau pieces and multimedia displays of craftsmanship and architecture. Stop for a slice of cake at the cafe or pick up an Art Nouveau-inspired souvenir at the gift shop. Using our custom trip planner, Alesund attractions like Jugendstilsenteret and Kunstmuseet Kube can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Really well designed museum about the history of Art Noveau and the way Alesund rebuilt after the great fire. Lots of Dentist captions and the main film had English commentary. Perfect if you on a cruise with limited time.
Really interesting collection which is displayed in a way that makes it easy to follow the development of the style and its influence across so much of daily life. Unfortunately it's also very busy when there are cruise ships in port. But still well worth the effort.
A mandatory stop in Alesund because it's an important example of Art Nouveau in Norway and the explanation of what happened in the city during and after the fire of 1904
Lovely display of art deco work
A good place to catch the history of Ålesund at year 1904, where a tremendous fire has destroyed a whole city! Visit the time machine inside before you start the museum. You have also a valid ticket for the art museum "kube" by underground way, next building.
