Jugendstilsenteret, Alesund
(4.1/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
After a major fire in 1904 in Alesund, the entire town was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, which was prevalent at the time. Jugendstilsenteret seeks to preserve this architectural heritage. Architect Hagbarth Schytte-Berg designed the building, which was constructed between 1905 and 1907 and originally housed a pharmacy with the pharmacist's apartment above it. The exhibit consists of three floors of Norwegian Art Nouveau pieces and multimedia displays of craftsmanship and architecture. Stop for a slice of cake at the cafe or pick up an Art Nouveau-inspired souvenir at the gift shop. With our custom trip planner, Alesund attractions like Jugendstilsenteret can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • So well curated and exhibited. A must see for any art and design lover. The history of the town, architecture and the arts are very well explained and the collection is small but very rich.
  • We visited these two museums, which are both accessible for one price. There was an exhibition in the Kube named "Town" on, urban development and urbanization, which was nice. The entrance to Jugendst...  more »
  • We found the museum interesting and fascinating. I loved all the original rooms and the multi media presentation on the rebuilding of Alesund.

  • Nice museum which has different exhibitions with a special focus on the art noveau style. The "time-machine" takes you "back" in time in an amazing way. Here are also a cafe.
  • Somewhat expensive café, but a great place to learn about the art neuvo-style. The "time machine" is a great concept, and fairly well done.
  • The time machine takes you to 1904, when Ålesund burned down.
