Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
After a major fire in 1904 in Alesund, the entire town was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, which was prevalent at the time. Jugendstilsenteret seeks to preserve this architectural heritage. Architect Hagbarth Schytte-Berg designed the building, which was constructed between 1905 and 1907 and originally housed a pharmacy with the pharmacist's apartment above it. The exhibit consists of three floors of Norwegian Art Nouveau pieces and multimedia displays of craftsmanship and architecture. Stop for a slice of cake at the cafe or pick up an Art Nouveau-inspired souvenir at the gift shop. With our custom trip planner, Alesund attractions like Jugendstilsenteret can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Somewhat expensive café, but a great place to learn about the art neuvo-style. The "time machine" is a great concept, and fairly well done.
  • loved it
  • Must visit place of aalesund.
  • It best: the building and the facilities. The history of the city in a curious machine time and above all economic menu (dish overflowing buffet-type) and tarts. For something I was recommended in the Lonely Planet guides!
