  • I'm not sure how many stars to give this as we really enjoyed it but only as part of a visit/hike to the volcano itdelf. The museum is very interesting and has some beautiful photos of Masaya, rock sa...  more »
  • It is thrilling to see this volcano erupting at night -- you can stare right into the crater and see actual molten lava. Get in the car line just before sunset, and the wait will be shorter.  more »
  • The crater of the volcano is one of a kind. need to go at night. They charge a small fee to get in and allow 20 minutes to enjoy the sight. If you haven't seen a live volcano it is worth seen it.  more »

  • It was neat to see real lava flowing! Downside is it's obviously touristy and can be a long wait just to spend 10 minutes seeing the lava. Worth a trip if it interests you and you have time to do it though!
  • Cool to see an active volcano. It's a little tough to actually see it, but definitely go at night if you go. That's probably the only time you can see any of the red glow from the lava.
  • Great to be able to drive right to the mouth of an active volcano and watch the orange lava bubbling. You can lean over the edge of the railing and smell the brimstone, though it can leave you choking. Check the volcanic debris on the drive in. Be aware that the site warden may limit your stays - they have to, as the volcano occasionally erupts and they need to evacuate.
  • See it at NIGHT! Our group made this detour because we were going by just as they were about to open back up for the evening when this active volcano is most impressive. You wait quite some time in line on the drive up for your 5 minutes at the caldara. I got some decent pictures and video of the lava flowing inside the caldera. Definitely a great memory.
  • Song the capability was awesome. It's a short amount of time you can spend so take pictures quickly.
