Telica Volcano, Leon

(4.6/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Hike to the top of the active Telica Volcano, and marvel at bubbling magma within its huge crater. The relatively strenuous route to the top leads to rewarding panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and other nearby volcanoes. Peer into the giant crater to see the red-hot magma deep below. Head up just before sunset, sit and watch the sun go down, and enjoy the glowing magma that becomes even more impressive after dark. Pack a flashlight for your journey back down, or make sure your guide can provide one. Plan to visit Telica Volcano during your Leon vacation using our convenient Leon itinerary builder.

  • It was an amazing trek!!! The hike is not very difficult and you walk directly to the crater. If you are lucky you can even see the lava. The sunset is beautiful and we also visited a bat cave. It was...  more »
  • We have seen the volcano and the surrounding area for days, then our guide took us to see the bats: interesting. And at nightfall back near the crater, impressive!

  • Since we are not fans of great guided tours, we wanted to make this volcano not by Léon (as many others do it). That's why we went to San Jacinto by bus. This is a small village with a single hotel, 2-3 of very small "Tiendas" (small shops) and a very simple restaurant just off the main road. When we got there, we organised a tour for the next day. Guides there is next to the entrance of the park or in the (single) hotel, which offers the cheapest rates for a tour. We decided for the "Hotel Guides". The guides are / were 2 young people or the sons of the "owner". That is, the elder of the two (ca. 16 years old) was our guide and the younger (ca. 13 years old) just still came up with. The two had their fun together and therefore we think that it had a "entertainment purposes", that was also the younger :-). To the hotel, you must say that it is miserable (we have already stayed in many very simple hotels and are used a lot). With "abysmal", I mean that it had spiders and mosquitoes in the room, it was very hot in the morning we had no water (they had parked it, what very annoyed us), the room was dirty and the boss/owner/mother of the House (as always) was quite unfriendly and demotivated. Unfortunately, we had no choice, so we stayed again in this hotel, which I would recommend to anybody. It is aware that these people not in luxury indulging me and therefore not able to offer "Best/most beautiful", but think I that still simple small things (like E.g. the water running, spinning a little remove, be friendly to tourists) can be noted. This costs nothing and brings nice very much. Anyway, we were luckily (the thoughts came up quite) by the bad Hotel didn't distract us there to the tour at the morning z start to spend the night. The next morning at about 5 o'clock, when it was still dark, we marched off from the hotel. The 2 guys did their job really well. It was herzig as she showed us different fruits on the way and we also repeatedly to cost of these (well, it were not their fruits yea). We ran pretty fast (the 2 guys had a pretty pace and off & we had to slow it a little) on the crater. The path led past corn fields and also other arable land, through woods, over pastures with wild horses and wonderful Auussichtspunkten. The hike was incredibly beautiful and the Asblick on the stunning crater. Some of the best was that you witnessed something beautiful and had in addition it for itself alone. Super!
