  • I think you should just go because it is historic and was the revolution in this place of Leon, but is not beautiful or picturesque, this means destroyed. The talk takes advantage with the Lords quebhacen as a guide.

  • Really an interesting overview of the history of the Nicaraguan revolution. The old veteran as a guide. Spoke only Spanish.

  • We had heard that the tours were only done in Spanish but we had a wonderful guide who was quite fluent in English. If you are at all interested in Nicaraguan history this is a must.  more »

  • One of the highlights of our trip to Leon. Having been involved in social jsutice issues in the US around Central America getting a personalized tour from someone who was there was Amazing. Even with limited Spanish- thats what google translate is for- you can scan it over any writings even! and as photographers we LOVED getting a tour of the roof. We took pictures up their with our guide who never pressured to buy the dvd or give him a tip!
  • We were rushed through the exhibit, and when we didn't purchase a DVD from our guide our tour somehow managed to be sped up even more. Additionally, at the end, we weren't allowed to visit the top floor (the highlight) without providing a tip. Coming in with knowledge of the revolution, there was no new information. Extremely disappointed
  • This was probably my favorite part of our Leon visit. The men running this place were so warm and welcoming, even with our limited Spanish. The history and the stories they tell are powerful and important. Make time to stop there, maybe they'll take you up on the roof!
  • We had a gritty down to earth tour through the museum by veteran. Good review of Nicaraguan history. The English of the guide wasn't perfect but he got his point across. Make certain you go onto the roof!
  • A bit expensive for what it is (100 Cordobas) but the money goes for a good cause, the veterans's medicines and pensions. History being explained by someone that fought in the war was an amazing experience, also to be able to walk on the roof ( be careful with the holes !)

Where to stay in Leon

The central streets of Leon offer a wide range of accommodations, from extremely budget-friendly hostels to upscale hotels with all the trimmings of luxury. Catedral de Leon--arguably the biggest tourist attraction in town--serves as the hub for these lodgings, with a high concentration of options lining the streets surrounding it. If you want to stay somewhere a bit quieter and have excellent onward access for road trips, go west of the center along Route 14.
