Museo de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian, Leon

4.6
Observe colonial and contemporary art in a complex of five colonial-era buildings connected together at Museo de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian. The art collection consists mostly of Latin American art, though some sculptures and paintings in the collection were created by European artists. Hire an English-speaking guide to take you through the exhibits and talk you through the pieces and the artists’ stories. The standing collection is impressive on its own, but the museum also changes out exhibits regularly. • Amazing museum. I'm not a fan of art, but the diverse and eclectic mix here was enthralling. My favorite activity in Leon
  • The collection of modern Latin American and old world antique work is interesting and well displayed in beautiful surroundings. Many rooms have binders that give background for the individual paintings. Well worth the cost of admission.
  • Really beautiful collection of Latin American art here. A nice treat in this area of the world. It won't rival the galleries of major global cities obviously, but it's definitely worth the time to look. Some vibrant and interesting works here-- and booklets to describe the paintings.
  • Beautiful place, nice art collection from regional painters to masters like Picasso
  • Seriously amazing museum! It's okay if you don't speak Spanish, and you get to choose how much to donate on Sundays (rather than paying an admission fee).

Where to stay in Leon

The central streets of Leon offer a wide range of accommodations, from extremely budget-friendly hostels to upscale hotels with all the trimmings of luxury. Catedral de Leon--arguably the biggest tourist attraction in town--serves as the hub for these lodgings, with a high concentration of options lining the streets surrounding it. If you want to stay somewhere a bit quieter and have excellent onward access for road trips, go west of the center along Route 14.
