Catedral de Granada, Granada

4.5
#2 of 11 in Sightseeing in Granada
Church Tourist Spot
Visit one of the city's landmarks at Catedral de Granada, a neoclassical church that dominates the urban skyline. The 1972 edifice features a striking red and yellow facade, along with two domed towers and bell tower. Walking through the church's five altars, and look for the sacred image of the Virgen de la Concepción, saved from destruction by fire in 1856. Also, pay attention to the main altar's statue of Mary surrounded by silver, and backed by blue mosaic tiles. Climb the bell tower to enjoy views of the city, the lake, and the volcano in the distance. • Nothing remarkable except for the ascent to the Bell Tower, which is not very high but has good views. They charge the entrance but it is cheap.

  • Really iconic kathedral. The inside of the cathedral is not spectacular... however the views of this place is fantastic. Free admission to go inside.  more »
  • The Cathedral is centrally located on the market square in the center of the city. The (German) Archbishop's palace situated next to it. Unfortunately the Church falls more and more so that you sometimes must ask, what so begins the Catholic Church with all their money and where it ultimately ends up - but certainly here, this is the wrong place for such discussions. Watch and be amazed on the beauty of the building and the time is created in the ERS.

  • I just love to come to the cathedral's bell tower... You get a different perspective and views of Granada.. A must visit
  • For $1, you literally have no excuse not to visit the top of the cathedral. The views are excellent and you'll end up getting some great overall pics of the city. The cathedral itself is beautiful so I strongly recommend visiting!
  • The colonial town of Granada is such a special place. The architecture and colors of the Cathedral of Granada is spectacular. Beautiful inside and amazing outside. At night they light up the cathedral and it is stunning. You don't need to be religious to appreciate it.
  • Large cathedral with colourful paintings on the sealing.
  • My experiences in Granada, Nicaragua were some of the best moments of my life. This beautiful, little colonial town and the people in it reminded me what it's like to be alive. Definitely going again someday!
