We discovered the reserve Indio Maiz with Cairo, our guide, during a tour by Juan Ardilla. A great day, which begins with two hours of canoeing on the peaceful Rio San Juan, then 3 hours of walking in a worthy of a Hollywood movie jungle. Unfortunately, the reserve was heavily damaged by the hurricane of November 2016, and a lot of trees (including a 500tenaire) we were destroyed. We still could see iguanas, otters, basiliscus, a caiman, crocodiles, turtles, toucans, small frogs killer, spiders, monkeys (howlers, spiders). We took advantage of the lunch break (for which Juan prepared us a fish or pork - the choice - grilled, on a banana leaf, with the trimmings that go well) for bathing in the river. Despite the rainy season, the water was quite clear and clean (and must be clear turquoise in the dry season). The return is done in boat motor, where we continued to explore the surrounding wildlife, enjoyed a very fresh watermelon and ended the day with a tasting of Coco logo (local rum in a small coconut greeted): a treat. Thanks to Juan and thanks to Cairo our guide, both friendly and never short of anecdotes! We have not regretted the 12-hour trip from Ometepe to join San Carlos!
