Waterfall Nature / Park
Marvel at the cascading water and lush native bush of Whangarei Falls. The dramatic waterfall plunges 26.3 m (86.3 ft) over basalt cliffs, creating an impressive spectacle that can be enjoyed from three viewing platforms. Two circular walking routes surround the falls, allowing you to take them in from various angles. The Whangarei Falls loop spans just 1 km (0.6 mi) and takes around 30 minutes, while the Sands Road loop stretches 4.8 km (3 mi) and should take approximately three hours. Bear in mind that both walks involve crossing a bridge with no handrail, which may make some visitors nervous. Though neither route is particularly strenuous, comfortable walking shoes are advisable. A picnic area and restrooms are located by the parking lot. Plan to visit Whangarei Falls during your Whangarei vacation using our convenient Whangarei holiday planner.

  • There is a carpark close to the 26 metre falls and a comfortable loop walk which takes one through the woods and across a couple of bridges that give excellent photo opportunities.  more »

  • A enjoyable walk though Whangarei historic landmark. 3 stars because I witnessed young hooligans throwing street cones off the water fall.
  • A real surprise in the middle of the city. A lovely place to visit, they even had assisted parking to ensure you weren't going around in circles looking for a park space. The falls were beautiful and the walkway is well presented and easy. Can't wait to return to do the full loop.
  • Amazing waterfall right next to the main SH1 ! You can view them right there at the car park, or you can take a short 10 min walk down to the waters edge for an even better view. Beautiful Forrest walk , nice easy path to follow. Perfect little break if you're passing by.
  • If you are travelling to North of the North island (towards Cape Reinga) this is a one should be in your visit list. Located in Whangarei Scenic Reserve very close to city. Parking is ok but better not to keep any valuables in side your vehicle. We feel the security is not good.
  • The facilities have seen a marked improvement, however I was surprised to find so much rubbish in the water ways and in the bush (Feb '17). Beautiful place to visit otherwise. Very easy walk. Impossible NOT to take a great PHOTO. :)
