5/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Challenge yourself and climb to the peak of Mt Manaia, a chain of basalt peaks overlooking the Whangarei Harbor. The trek involves a vigorous ascent through a forest with several viewing points along the way. Visitors who reach the top are rewarded with spectacular 360-degree views of the harbor, Bream Bay, and nearby islands. Try to identify native birds along the way, including the nation's icon, the kiwi. Ask a local for the mythology behind the peaks, and receive a story about mythical monsters and the god of weather.
