Durie Hill Elevator, Whanganui

(260+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Ride up to panoramic views on Durie Hill Elevator, New Zealand's first public underground elevator. Soak up views of the Tasman Sea and surrounding mountains on the platform at the end of the line, and climb the adjacent 33.5 m (110 ft) memorial tower for an even greater vantage point. Built in 1919, the elevator represents a historical local landmark as well as an important local thoroughfare. If you need some exercise, a 191-step walkway also accesses the hilltop, so feel free to take the elevator up and the stairs down, or vice-versa. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Durie Hill Elevator and many more Whanganui attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Whanganui vacation builder.
