Westpac Stadium, Wellington

3.9
#1 of 12 in Fun & Games in Wellington
Fun & Games Sports Complex
Colloquially named the Cake Tin, Westpac Stadium serves as Wellington's main sports venue and the only stadium to have hosted an Australian Football League game outside of Australia. See a variety of sports, from All Blacks rugby matches to One Day International cricket, or one of the large-capacity concerts held here. If traveling in a group, consider reserving a group tour for a behind-the-scenes look at the stadium--check the website for information and inquiries. "Lord of the Rings" film enthusiasts will appreciate the fact that in 2002 Peter Jackson recorded 30,000 cricket fans chanting here to use in the movie. • The architecture of the Westpac raised the name of Tin Cake (cake tin) and is quite different from the rest of the city, but gets a little away, too, does not interfere. Conducts guided tours

  • Easy walking from the centre, even in the rain!!, plenty of bars on the way. Great seats, great atmosphere. What a fantastic place to watch rugby, brilliant.  more »
  • The stadium is easy to reach by walking along almost the shore line. Takes about 230 minutes. Several pubs and clubs on the way. Disappointing with beer prices inside ground at NZ$9 for 300ml bottle v...  more »

  • Unlike virtually all other stadiums in New Zealand this one was built in one phase from start to finish. It has excellent transport links and can fill and drain quickly. Easy access to food and drinks. Only downside is trying to watch a rugby game in a stadium made for cricket.
  • Queue at ticket counter was longer than we thought it would be but the ticketing officer was patient and got us great seats for our budget. Great atmosphere for a super rugby night and I thought nobody watched it anymore. Easy to find seats.
  • Great venue for cricket, not so much for rugby because you're so far from the sideline. Food and beverage could do with some options too, most sports matches you can choose from just one beer on tap or pricey water...
  • Westpac stadium is the home of the Hurricanes. Nothing extra ordinary, all stadiums are the same. Easily accessible.
  • Great place to watch live sports and music and shows at. Can be very drafty. It's the cake tin!!
