  • Highly recommend to book or join the Ship ‘n Chips tour that starts at 11am everyday. It’s great value at $49 with a 50 min guided tour in the Museum and a ferry that brings you to Somme’s Island and back, including takeaway Fish n chips arranged by the museum. The museum is quite big @ 3 stories high So it would be good to go earlier to have your own walk as the 1 hour tour by them is not sufficient to see everything although it’s great to have a guide. Somme’s Island was a good 3 hours walk around leisurely. You may not be able to book from their website but you can just call or show up to join the tour, when we were here there was just 2 of us making it a private tour! Definitely a hidden gem for seeing Wellington and a great way to spend the day other than seeing the city.
  • Great museum! Well laid out exhibits with good signage. Definitely don't miss the top floor "attic" as it has some of the most fun stuff, and the film presentations are very well done. There are so many interesting tidbits that there's sure to be something interesting for everyone.
  • We were staying in a nearby hotel so decided to visit, lovely old building on several floors filled with many interesting things. little shop on the ground floor run by friendly staff. Old Wellington Harbour board museum on the top floor was in mint condition.
  • Free entry so you can't get a better deal. Nice building with plenty of its own character and history. The exhibitions are naturally limited in space but pretty interesting, although some feel like you need a good grasp of Wellington history to really understand them. Well with a visit especially for locals.
  • An amazing experience albeit being smaller than The Papa. It has plenty to offer especially for a younger audience. My favourite levels were those that allowed for one to vote for an alternate story or name to some things and had a short hologram describing a certain legend involving Maui, and my second most favourite level was the level describing the origins of Wellington.
