Frank Kitts Park, Wellington

4.2
#10 of 53 in Parks in Wellington
Go local at Frank Kitts Park, where you can listen to talented buskers, let the kids play, and relax along with other Wellingtonians. The park, named after the city's longest-serving mayor Frank Kitt, represents one of the first areas of the waterfront to be developed back in the late 1980s. Its design was heavily influenced by the Wellington 500 street car race held in the area at the time. The many eateries and cafes close by make it a perfect spot for a snack or meal, while a short walk beside the waterfront will lead you to an art gallery and food market. • Picnic here, grab an ice cream or stroll along the water front trying to spy sting rays. With a kids park up one end lots of events in Wellington take place here so always something going on.  more »
  • Located on the waterfront. Visited here while walking from the Wellington Museum to the Te Papa Museum.  more »
  • This park has a great location on the waterfront but it failed to give a good impression as it was somewhat drab and untidy. With such a location it could have been so much better but maybe the wind p...  more »

  • Just walked through and it was great. The swings were a little low, but I expect they’re meant to be suitable for children, so all good. The big seagull slide thing is a definite highlight. 10/10 would walk past it again.
  • Great lighthouse slide and excellent views of the harbor from the top. It is showing it's age though at least it's not just another modern kit set playground like a number of the others around the country ( Blame OSH ). Nice area with a range of things including the electric cars for kids ( similar to the cars at Rainbow Ends ) , Swings and mini market area. Food and ice cream trucks are down there to from time to time. Furthermore, it's not to far from other activities like Te Papa etc.
  • Nice place for a park. Really cool swings and cool slide. I would recommend.
  • Nice park with some interesting equipment, but it is showing it's age a bit. The large slides were a neat feature but also a prime example of the aging of the playground, as kids moved slowly down the slide due to how beat up the interior was. The flooring material used was also peeling up in places. Overall a beautiful park that could use a coat of paint and some maintenance.
  • Beautiful harbour view. Lots of trees around. Great facilities, especially the slide. Kids love this playground.
