Frank Kitts Park, Wellington

#9 of 41 in Parks in Wellington
Nature / Park
Go local at Frank Kitts Park, where you can listen to talented buskers, let the kids play, and relax along with other Wellingtonians. The park, named after the city's longest-serving mayor Frank Kitt, represents one of the first areas of the waterfront to be developed back in the late 1980s. Its design was heavily influenced by the Wellington 500 street car race held in the area at the time. The many eateries and cafes close by make it a perfect spot for a snack or meal, while a short walk beside the waterfront will lead you to an art gallery and food market. • Quaint little slice of an easier-going lifestyle, Frank Kitts Park is a good little reprieve from city hustle and bustle. Weekends see attractions suitable for young kids. Beware, the park is known to host events ranging from concerts to protests, so it's wise to check before heading there on the sunniest days.
  • Great place to walk around and still be close to the city. Wind can be bracing at times.
  • A place that is quintessential Wellington. There's always something going on there and the playground is excellent. People watch the throngs waking past on the waterfront.
  • Such a great place to hang with family, to chill and enjoy the outdoors. Many different activities to engage in too.
  • Just a gorgeous place to hangout. Nice little park to take your kids or sit down have a break. Coffee and food carts are usually parked up at lunch.
