Where to stay in Wellington

As an established, modern capital city, Wellington offers accommodations of numerous shapes and sizes. Get a harbor view at a luxury hotel by the waterfront, or enjoy simple rental rooms at one of the many backpacker hostels. Cheaper accommodation lies outside the downtown area, with motels, campsites, and RV parks providing options for those on smaller budgets, and travelers wanting to get out of town and into the rolling, green hills. Wellington benefits from a wide range of transport and a very efficient infrastructure, so you'll have access to attractions no matter where you stay.

  • Easily one of the top 5 places to see in Wellington on the way to Te Papa (for example) or incorporate as part of a city walk. Ive dropped one star as its a concrete jungle. Limited food options within the square - need to go to the adjoining streets for that... nice place to sit - a lot of locals seem to sit here at lunchtime
  • Wonderfully architecturally engineered space, great place to come on a sunny day off in the city. Feed pidgins, play some foot ball, or just people watching. Free WiFi from to local art gallery too.
  • Good local hangout on a sunny day. Excellent views of Wellington from here. A must for tourists.
  • A good public event center. Easily accessible from all directions on foot. Many formal and informal events take place here.
  • Majestic view. Must visit. Excellent hangout place in a sunny day.
