  • First stop on our 4 week tour.....think we stayed 3 days and nights. Freedom camped close to the beach. Great spot. Will definitely be returning.

  • Busy during Summer, beautiful beaches with nice surroundings. Make sure you pack lunch - Katakana and surrounding areas are expensive and not much to choose from eating wise. Make sure you drive...

  • A longish winding road leads to a stunning beach and unique rock "caves". Parking was well organised and the toilets clean. Take ample water and snacks and please remember a bag to put all your rubbish in and take it with you. Super cool beach and waves for surfers.
  • Entry level beach for northland as they just get more stunning the further north you go, however Tawharanui is just gorgeous. Perfect spot for a leisurely swim, body boarding or a surf. Something for everyone. Crystal clear waters and plenty of parking
  • So beautiful. We spent the day at the beach, then having a picnic before heading into the bush at dusk. We were so lucky and saw two kiwis. Fantastic experience
  • Had an amazing stay, not overcrowded and toilets were as good as long drops get. Camp wardens were aware of who comes and goes and you really felt your belongings were safe. Felt connected and living alongside nature and the birdlife. Though you must be vigilant around your food putting stuff away and during meal prep times, they will ninja it! So many walks and so close to the beach.
  • Good beaches and crystal clear water. However Auckland Council come make more toilet facilities. The facilities were over used and not clean enough. Better do it in a bucket than use the public toilets
