  • Ruakuri is the best of the Big Three caves most tourists visit when in Waitomo. It's a proper look at what a cave looks like if a real caving option is not a viable option. It's completely wheel chair...  read more »
  • We visited these Caves Waitomo Glowworm Caves further to our tour, because we were not allowed to make any pictures on that tour and we yet on the glow worms. The tour is very professional. Though clearly very commercial, cots for whole new entrance laid out, because another part of the caves was used as a cemetery by the Maori. So there is a very deep hole dug up again, impressive as you state above, the cave itself is nice to see. Beautiful rock formations and, of course, the glow worms, though they are a lot less than in the other cave. The guides were very professional and knew a lot about the cave to tell.

  • We found the location of the caves quite easily, and there is ample parking - there are food outlets there but we had taken a packed lunch - the only downside of our whole day was being unable to find...  read more »
  • Overprized. Near auckland you get a better experience for free in waipu cove
  • A great place but the tour was average. The guide was not interesting and it was too rushed and there are too many groups inside together
  • Our tour was late starting and we felt the guide was making up for lost time. Rather hurried. We would have appreciated a more leisurely tour to enable us to maximise the experience. The cave was fantastic, overall the experience was slightly disappointing.
  • Really good all round tour of glowworms and the caves themselves. Our guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. We went on a tour of the Waitomo Glowworm Caves first, but you might as well just do this one, unless you want to see a few more glowworms with a short boat ride in the dark. These are also much more impressive caves in general, with plenty of photo opportunities.
  • If you have no time to catch the Glowworm Cave and the Aranui Cave, then the Ruakuri cave gives you the best of both. It has beautiful stalactites/stalagmites formation, as well as close encounters with glow worms. The whole tour takes about two hours, with plenty of time for photo taking. The guide is also knowledgeable and professional. The cave is a bit chilly because of the river that runs through it, so be sure to put on a jacket or wear longs. Not to be missed. There is also black water rafting available in this cave; booking done with the same company that runs the tour.
