Mangapohue Natural Bridge, Waitomo Caves

(4.7/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Stand in awe at the geological history of Waikato at Mangapohue Natural Bridge, a 17 m (56 ft) limestone arch that crosses Mangapohue Stream. The last remnant of an ancient cave system, the bridge makes up part of a mighty gorge and is decorated with impressive stalactite rock formations. Easily accessible even for those with infants in strollers, a well-maintained trail leads you to the mouth of the bridge and continues along the gorge and out into pristine farmland. • This 'natural bridge' is actually a collapsed cave. Quite close to the car park it is an easy walk. But is a long way in the wrong direction if travelling from Waitomo, and the clockwise loop back up ...  more »
  • A pretty cool place to visit if you're in the area. There is a short walk (5mins) to the natural bridge and some stairs to climb. Very accessible for those with children  more »
  • This 'bridge' is made of stone that at one point in history formed a massive cave; the majority of the cave 'roof' has been eaten away by the weather and the remaining stone now forms a natural bridge...  more »

  • Super easy to reach and enjoyable short loop track. The trail itself as well as the arches are just stunning. You don't expect that. Don't get fooled by the pictures. It's definitely worth a visit in the elsewise busy touristic waitomo area.
  • An easy 5 minute walk from the carpark, with a few steps. The walk is well worth it as the bridge is impressive, with sheer walls and a small stream below. If you've come this far, make sure you continue on down the road to Marokopa Falls
  • Amazing smells along a lush track
  • Lovely piece of nz.
  • Very easy walk must do while in waitomo
