Kiwi Cave Rafting reviews
An awesome trip and new aspect of nz to explore! Colin was a lovely guide and taught us all sorts about the cave fauna. Tubing, abseiling, climbing, glow worm fuelled night sky - Highly recommend... more »

Great adventure, packed so much into just a few hours and enjoyed the whole experience. The abseiling, glowworms, tubing and climbing out again was all good fun, especially in the rain. Thanks to... more »
I enjoyed the experience, but I'd have to say I was a bit disappointed. They should be more clear on how much actual rafting it involves. In our trip it was simply drifting on a tube for a relatively short stretch in quite still water. Apart from that the abseiling at the start, and rock climbing at the end were fun. The glow worms were amazing (worth it for that - best I've seen) but the caving seemed a little contrived to produce photo opportunities. Overall, I'd say the tour was definitely worth it, you just need to go in with the right expectations.
A fun and adventurous experience of exploring Waitomo caves and witnessing the wondrous effect of the thousands of glowworms illuminating the dark tunnels. A few too many photo opps for my taste, especially as it was only to generate more money for the tour operator - they ask you to pay extra to get the photos for yourself. It wasn't a cheap tour so getting a few photos of the experience (as own cameras were banned) would've been a great added value.
The initial abseil down into the caves was the best part of the experience, albeit slightly unsafe with the mechanism used, and short lived. The second best part was the rock climb back out of the caves. The majority of the trip was spent wading through the caves and looking at glow worms, going through some squeezes in the caves, and blackwater rafting. The blackwater rafting part was much slower than I expected - you have to almost paddle yourself down the cave as there is not much of a current. Our cave guide was brilliant however, and made the whole experience more fun.
Have done 4hr rafting. Starting with abseiling, u walk in the cave to see glowworms, tube in the water, try squeezing as well, and finish with climbing. Good combination of various activities in the cave. U can see heaps of glowworms. Cant believe ur eyes.
Best caving adventurous trip I've done could be more happier with the great view and lovely staff , high recommend if your up for an adventure
