Stony Batter, Waiheke Island
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Take in the sea views at Stony Batter, a historical reserve lying at the eastern end of Waiheke Island. The idiosyncratic rocky outcrops and formations littering the landscape create an interesting topography. With clear views of the Hauraki Gulf, the reserve boasts numerous walking routes appropriate for all members of the family. Of particular note are the World War II gun emplacements that sit at the top of the hill, under which run extensive underground tunnels perfect for young explorers and history enthusiasts alike.
