  • Worth the visit if you are keen on NZ history. This site is about 150 years old. There is not much to see here but sure is a good piece of NZ history.  more »
  • We came across this site while driving to to Turangi through National Park. There is not alot of information about the actual fighting between Te Kooti and the government troops and their Maori...  more »
  • Went to the top redoubt. Worth the walk, steppish in places with a few steps, but overall nice and easy. Good viewing platform to survey the trenches and surroundings.  more »

  • An amazing experience, worth the mini hike haha
  • The Te Porere Redoubts are one of New Zealand's most nationally significant places. The Redoubts reflect the final phase of the New Zealand Wars and are closely associated with Te Kooti who emerged as one of the leading figures of this period, and was the founder of the Ringatu faith.
  • Stunning piece of New Zealand history. Well preserved and feels like it was only dug a few years ago. Free to visit and a good walk to the upper Redoubt. The lower one is the gem but the views from the upper one make it worth the effort. Its isolation almost ensures that they'll hardly be another person (we saw another group arrive just as we left). The track down to the car park is unsealed but my little car had no problem at all on it.
  • NZ historic site my g
  • It is an interesting place to visit. However it is more of a 'drive through' visit. You could only spend a maximum of 45 minutes there. It is also a good place to learn about Maori culture.
