Kaiate Falls, Tauranga
(4.8/5 based on 130 reviews on the web)
Walk through a forest reserve to reach Kaiate Falls, a series of multiple cascades leading to a swimming hole at the bottom. The trail brings you to the top of the waterfalls (also called Te Rerekawau), where you can then make your way down to the bottom, allowing you to see the falls in their entirety. Try to identify the puriri and kohekohe trees along the way and keep an eye out for birds. Maps and markers along the trail make it easy to navigate the area, but remember to wear sturdy walking shoes and take plenty of water. Be wary of leaving anything valuable in your car, as theft is not uncommon. Kaiate Falls is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Tauranga Edition.

  • I visited the falls this morning. It was grey and overcast but still enjoyable and better for getting photographs. Need to be careful of the slippery steps and rocks when wet.
  • Each waterfall just keeps getting better and better, unfortunately it is not recommended to go swimming.
  • The hard part is to find the road map... 10 minutes from path to get to a nice place with beautiful falls. We have a picnic on site, very nice. Easy access for a family.
