Kaiate Falls, Tauranga

4.7
#2 of 6 in Nature in Tauranga
Walk through a forest reserve to reach Kaiate Falls, a series of multiple cascades leading to a swimming hole at the bottom. The trail brings you to the top of the waterfalls (also called Te Rerekawau), where you can then make your way down to the bottom, allowing you to see the falls in their entirety. Try to identify the puriri and kohekohe trees along the way and keep an eye out for birds. Maps and markers along the trail make it easy to navigate the area, but remember to wear sturdy walking shoes and take plenty of water. Be wary of leaving anything valuable in your car, as theft is not uncommon. Kaiate Falls is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Tauranga Edition.

Please be extra careful when you go there in a wet day. Definitely need some maintenance on the stairs and the trail. Pretty muddy on the day I went but no complaints, it was worthy. The view is breath taking. 🙂

Nice easy walk to get a few beautiful falls in a short time. About 20 mins for the entire loop.

Wow! Beautiful view towards the mount over natural forested slopes. A steep climp down to two layers of waterfalls. Clear water spilling down steep rocks into a deep pool at the bottom. It was even more spectacular after recent rains. It can be a bit slippery & muddy when wet, so beware. Well worth a visit.

The walk to the falls is not to bad. Some great views along the way.
