Kaiate Falls, Tauranga

(4.8/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Walk through a forest reserve to reach Kaiate Falls, a series of multiple cascades leading to a swimming hole at the bottom. The trail brings you to the top of the waterfalls (also called Te Rerekawau), where you can then make your way down to the bottom, allowing you to see the falls in their entirety. Try to identify the puriri and kohekohe trees along the way and keep an eye out for birds. Maps and markers along the trail make it easy to navigate the area, but remember to wear sturdy walking shoes and take plenty of water. Be wary of leaving anything valuable in your car, as theft is not uncommon. Kaiate Falls is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Tauranga Edition.

  • I went of to ask. Find the Papamoa Rd in car navigation system can easily be reached. Been hearing river flow and feel good because it was a sunny day walking through the Woods and down. Falls was slowing down to three. It was a really fantastic scenery. Worth going back up so a little painful but there is.

  • Admire distant Mt Maunganui as you descend to the first 2 tier of the falls. Explore or take a dip at the 2 pools neath the upper 2 falls. The 3rd tier is a smaller falls which is a bit obstructed. Co...  more »
