Kaiate Falls, Tauranga

Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web
Walk through a forest reserve to reach Kaiate Falls, a series of multiple cascades leading to a swimming hole at the bottom. The trail brings you to the top of the waterfalls (also called Te Rerekawau), where you can then make your way down to the bottom, allowing you to see the falls in their entirety. Try to identify the puriri and kohekohe trees along the way and keep an eye out for birds. Maps and markers along the trail make it easy to navigate the area, but remember to wear sturdy walking shoes and take plenty of water. Be wary of leaving anything valuable in your car, as theft is not uncommon. Kaiate Falls is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Tauranga Edition.

  • Very good active recreation outdoors in the company of friends or family. Throughout the campaign, you can see a cascade of waterfalls, magnificent views of the mountain, dense vegetation. You need to wear shoes for light hikes.

  • The Kaiate falls are always worth a visit any time of the year but an excellent spot for a picnic in summer. We have been there many times in our 26 years in Tauranga and always enjoy the trip
  • The waterfalls are absolutely beautiful! Nice walk as well with some great lookouts. To bad though about the garbage people leave behind or come and dump there.
  • Nice small waterfall with easy walk
  • Great walks to do around here, beautiful scenery.
  • Nice walk although couldn't swim at the time due to bacteria conditions.
  • A wonderful lay idillic set of falls with brilliant ledges for jumping and rope swings
