Hop on a ferry to view the impressive Maori Rock Carvings, a collection of individual carvings into the rock face of Mine Bay standing over 10 m (33 ft) high, a gift to the town of Taupo. The work of master carver Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell and Jonathan Randell and completed in the 1970s, each carving is unique unto itself, with its own story, meaning, and significance. The carvings can only been seen by water, so opt to take a guided boat tour or get a closer look with a guided kayaking tour. The more comfortable option of the two is the ferryboat, where visitors can sit back and relax while munching on snacks and listening to the informative guides. Our Taupo vacation builder makes visiting Maori Rock Carvings and other Taupo attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.
