Huka Prawn Park, Taupo
Categories: Nature & Parks
The whole family can explore and play at Huka Prawn Park, New Zealand's only prawn farm. As well as producing over 30 tons of shrimp a year, this quirky aquaculture venture plays host to a wide range of games and activities. Begin your visit with a guided tour of the prawn nursery and hatchery before practicing your putt at the hole-in-one golf challenge, trying your hand at prawn fishing, or resting your feet in the geothermal footbath. Kids will enjoy testing their balance on the adventure walkways and tinkering on the water piano. When hunger strikes, you can feast on your own haul of shrimp or visit the riverside restaurant. For Huka Prawn Park and beyond, use our Taupo holiday planner to get the most from your Taupo vacation.

Our friends had wanted to take us here on our last visit to NZ two years ago but we ran out of time so it was a must do on the list this trip. We had a great day stood in the cold and drizzle trying t... read more »
More for the kids, but if you want to just visit and eat 1 Kg of prawns between you, and soak up the atmosphere, it's hard to beat. The idea is you fish for your own prawns from the mini lakes and hav... read more »
We had an absolute ball! so much to do and learn and it was very well priced! We smashed some golf balls and then went on a tour, fed prawns (that's an experience!), went on the Shawn the prawn walk, had fun on the water challenge activities then we spent the afternoon prawn fishing :D. We are very keen fishermen/fisherwomen and it was a complete change for us haha. Amazing staff, all were so friendly and helpful, the BEST customer service we have had in so long! So glad we went and next time we will definitely be staying longer!
Nice place with good food and friendly staff. Portions are small however and prices are more on the high side. Worth the visit, just make sure you don't go there starving.
Interesting and educational. Kids will enjoy it. Prawn catching was a bit disappointing, we did not catch anything. Food was great, prawn dish of course, and affordable.
I'm Michael from Auckland. No. 1 The prawn fishing is bullshit ,not only us but also almost everyone can't get even one prawn in one and half an hour. No. 2 We've been waiting for 50mins to have the meal in the restaurant. Omg I do hate this place in taupo
Decent food and atmosphere. Service was average and food was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. It felt more touristy.
