Huka Falls tracks, Taupo

(4.6/5 based on 4,600+ reviews on the web)
Hike or bike the trails around Huka Falls tracks, draining the country's largest lake by surface area and appealing to both amateur photographers and adventure seekers. Just upstream from the mighty falls, the Waikato River enters a rugged canyon and narrows abruptly from 100 m (328 ft) down to just 15 m (49 ft) across. The sudden constriction of the river's flow creates massive pressure that helps make Waikato's dramatic 10 m (33 ft) splash into a freshwater pool all the more spectacular. Walk a footbridge to admire the force of the falls, which the native tribes called "Hukanui," the Great Body of Spray. To get even closer to the roaring waters, try jet boating on the river. • This is obviously very popular spot with locals and tourists alike and I think early in the morning would be a good time to visit this place if you are crowd averse. I spent a wonderful few hours wand...  more »

  • Awesome scenery. If you have plenty of time try the easy and relaxing walk from Spa Thermal Park.
  • Fun to be on cruise to get close to waterfall. Watching spillway open is a good experience.
  • A beautiful scenic spot here. Water is ice-blue color and you feel like drinking every bit of it. Clear and transparent.
  • Wonderful, although there are a lot of tourists. Parking lot next to the attraction, but I recommend the 10-minutes-lasting walk from the cafe.
  • I thought it was just ok because the toilets you have to pay to use them and they was locked up at 4.30 pm so i shat in the bushes.funny how nz is trying to discourage freedom campers from making a mess but wont supply a sollution you got to go you got to go to bad.at a major tourist stop lift your game new zealand.
