Huka Falls tracks, Taupo

#1 of 315 in Trails in New Zealand
Hike or bike the trails around Huka Falls tracks, draining the country's largest lake by surface area and appealing to both amateur photographers and adventure seekers. Just upstream from the mighty falls, the Waikato River enters a rugged canyon and narrows abruptly from 100 m (328 ft) down to just 15 m (49 ft) across. The sudden constriction of the river's flow creates massive pressure that helps make Waikato's dramatic 10 m (33 ft) splash into a freshwater pool all the more spectacular. Walk a footbridge to admire the force of the falls, which the native tribes called "Hukanui," the Great Body of Spray. To get even closer to the roaring waters, try jet boating on the river. • It's really a awesome place. If I get time i will go again to see the beauty of Huka Falls. I have dream to visit Canadian world largest falls. But it's give me more pleasure about water falls. If you have time go and give your mind And refreshment .
  • Great spot to stop for a look and refresh from a drive. Easy to walk around get some good photos though pretty touristy. Parking was okay but could get pretty busy. Great view. 50 cents to use the toilet though.
  • The falls and the area are _beautiful_ and well worth the visit. My rating is lower because of the setup with the toilets and shop. You have to pay 50c to use the toilet, in cash, which means you probably have to buy something in the shop to get the 50c coin. As a result lots of people are using the forest as a toilet, which is not only disguising but also polluting. There isn’t even a drinking fountain there, despite being on a _fantastic_ walking and biking trail.
  • It really is an incredible sights. So much water rushing through the falls every second. I really was blown away. A must see for anyone visiting Taupo. Highly recommended.
  • The Huka Falls is close to the Taupo Lake and delivers 15 % of the electricity for the population here. Every second 5 olympic swimming pools could be filled so much water falls here. The water is deep blue and white. A mandatory visit when you are around here
