Huka Falls, Taupo
Categories: Waterfalls, Nature & Parks
Hike or bike the trails around Huka Falls, draining the country's largest lake by surface area and appealing to both amateur photographers and adventure seekers. Just upstream from the mighty falls, the Waikato River enters a rugged canyon and narrows abruptly from 100 m (328 ft) down to just 15 m (49 ft) across. The sudden constriction of the river's flow creates massive pressure that helps make Waikato's dramatic 10 m (33 ft) splash into a freshwater pool all the more spectacular. Walk a footbridge to admire the force of the falls, which the native tribes called "Hukanui," the Great Body of Spray. To get even closer to the roaring waters, try jet boating on the river. Using our custom trip planner, Taupo attractions like Huka Falls can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Do not go to the Taupo are without a visit to the Huka falls it is an awesome experience. Very beautiful. Great time to visit too as in summer the rapids are not as strong.
Nice feelings. Worth it. Make sure to bring some changes as there is a donation box over the bridge.
Several short and easy local paths to walk. The Falls are a stone's throw from the carpark. A very unique waterfall worthy of a visit if you're in the area!
It was absolutely amazing, so glad we went to see it. I do have photos but it doesnt let me post them
Very easy accessible falls. It probably contains some of the fastest moving water I have ever seen. I wouldn't mind a viewpoint further back than where the bridge is but views are still pretty good.
Spectacular. Picturesque and mesmerising. Allow 30-60 minutes to fully appreciate the falls and take advantage of the various viewpoints on each side of the river.
