Cathedral Caves, Southland Region

Inspirock Rating:
3.1/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web
Explore one of the longest sea caves in the world at Cathedral Caves, located on Waipati Beach. This impressive system boasts two caves that join inside the seaside cliff, reaching heights up to 30 m (98.4 ft). Timing is important when you visit, as you can only enter during a few hours on either side of low tide. Wear waterproof shoes, or bug spray if you plan to walk the beach barefoot, because sandflies here are a nuisance. Check the local tide timetable and verify accessibility on the website in advance, as the attraction sometimes closes without much notice.
