Haast Pass, South Island
Categories: Scenic Drives, Tourist Spots, Outdoor Activities
The mountain pass at Haast Pass is famous for its natural beauty and handfuls of roaring waterfalls. Most visitors experience the attraction with a scenic drive, but do not hesitate to leave your car and explore. Short walks are marked along the road, and among the most popular is the Blue Pools Walk. On this walk, a gravel path leads visitors over a swing bridge and deep into the forest where crystal-clear, blue pools have been carved into the rock. The glacier-fed water is so clear that native trout seem to be floating in the air. Wear appropriate shoes for trekking uphill and plenty of water.
