Volcanic Hills Winery, Rotorua

4.5
#2 of 158 in Wineries in New Zealand
Ride to the top of the Rotorua Skyline gondola and sample the delicious wines of Volcanic Hills Winery, where the mountainside tasting room offers panoramic views of Lake Rotorua and distant peaks. Participate in a wine tasting, led by the winery's friendly and informative owners, or just sit back with a glass of wine, nibble at a cheese board, and take in the scenery. Before heading up, consider stopping by the winery itself (at the base of the gondola), to see how a truckload of grapes turns into a bottle of fine wine. To plan Rotorua vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • The wine was pretty good however, not sure if it was just the server that we had, but the tastings were done at tables instead of at the bar so a tasting that should have taken 10 min took about 45 and we weren't really provided with alot of information about the different wines. I think he realized the issue and apologized and did give us a free tasting of the tawny but still we would have liked to have had more time to maybe have a glass or two.
  • Amazing experience, excellent wine and johny the best treat ever.
  • Great wines and service through our tasting. Learnt some very interesting facts about NZ and Australian wines. Also, what a great view!!
  • We bought a wine and talked to other mom while drinking wine while kids played. One of our child dropped the juice and did one little noise (scream). Ann (the manager) who served told us came to clean the juice and became very annoyed. She said that this place is for adults and customers cannot stand kids cry. There were only 2 customers in the restaurant. The rest us 8 people: 4 adults and 4 kids. We think if person is annoyed with kids then should not work in the hospitality area. I also have a business and I was surprised. She came to a 2.5 years child and said u cannot cry here. Ann said it s common sense to know it :o. She also said that a child cry annoys many people. If kids are not allowed then why did she serve us initially and also no sign about kids was displayed. Also Sky Line is a kids destination and it s a schools holidays.
  • What a surprise - great wine, great atmosphere, great cheese plater - just ticked all the boxes!
