(4.8/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web)
Bike or hike through Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest, a pristine natural world featuring a spectacular stand of giant California Coast redwood trees. Just 5 km (3.1 mi) from downtown Rotorua, "the Redwoods" (as the forest is locally known) serve as a 55,000 hectare (135,000 acre) playground for adventurous visitors wishing to experience New Zealand's lush wilderness by walking, cycling, or horseback riding. Considered one of the world's top mountain biking locations, the forest offers more than 160 km (99 mi) of trails catering to both beginner and expert riders. Be sure to check out routes wittily named "Be Rude Not To" and "Gunna Gotta." Hikers can explore a network of scenic trails, many of which offer sweeping views of Rotorua. • Thoroughly enjoyed this tree walk - definitely longer than it looks and great views. Only downside was idiots jumping on the bridge after being instructed not to but overall a great experience  more »
  • We arrived one day with a pretty bad time and raining enough but we decided it was worth it to get a little wet. We went first to the Office of information and take a map where to indicate routes, its length and the estimated time to go through them. We chose the green which is the same as the simplest but comes out a section. The have so much rain, the part of the road coming out of the basic route was regular so it cost us a little and was nothing spectacular so I recommend make basic routes (which are where are the Redwoods) and forget the rest if you do not want to walk much.
