Kerosene Creek, Rotorua

4.5
#16 of 61 in Outdoors in Rotorua
Take a relaxing dip in the spa-like waters of Kerosene Creek, one of Rotorua's best-kept secrets. The name might be a little off-putting, but the water is warm and inviting all year round. Stand beneath the waterfall for a free power massage, or head a little downstream to the smaller pools for some bathing privacy. Keep an eye on your belongings, as visitors occassinally report petty thefts in the area. • We'd read about this place online and it's great that it's only a few miles from the Wai-O-Tapu thermal area south of Rotorua. We'd been to the swimming hot springs and geyser features in Yellowstone,...  more »
  • We were taken here by our friend Alex, off the beaten track. Away from corporate price tags, rules and restrictions. A most Awesome experience a must do. Just 20 mins from Rotorua towards Taupo. A lit...  more »
  • A great river with enough hot water, oxbows and even a small waterfall. Recommend, especially for cool days. Free natural spa. 3 km from the main dirt road, a small parking lot and 30 m into the forest.

  • Relaxing place to enjoy a free hot water stream (Geyser). The only problem is you get yellow color on your swim wear due to sulfur in water... Great visit and explore for adults and kids... There is no facilities in the location except a toilet which I don't recommend to use.
  • A few good spots, natural wilderness, 39 to 41 degrees. Not the same cleanliness as Polynesian Spa. No facilities. Okay for guys and kids. Shallow enough. Can't stay for long because the temperature is high. Relaxation for Free. Parking for about 20 cars.
  • this is the best place ever!! The water is very hot and the natural pool and waterfall is amazing. Go there if you can. Don't leave your trash there!
  • Love it!!! Hot water stream, very fast water in places, which felt like a jacuzzi, there’s two waterfalls and also more gentle/shallow locations, so good for all ages and abilities. Don’t wear expensive swimwear though...
  • Absolutly amazed no greedy bugger has taken this under their control. Stunning to say the least. Waterfalls into perfect pools of hot water with heaps of shade. It gets quite crowded during the middle of the day, so go early to avoid the rush.
