Blue Lake, Rotorua
(4.5/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Scientifically confirmed as the clearest freshwater lake in the world, Blue Lake ranks as a top attraction for New Zealand tourists. This body of water lies in the northern part of the Southern Alps, in the Nelson Lakes National Park conservation area. Historically, the lake was used by the Maori people during funeral ceremonies, and is therefore considered sacred. Today, you can take a helicopter ride over the water to get the best views, or hike around the park to see it up close. • The weather was not so good, to hiking and partly for pleasure has gone. Not including bus, so until the Blue Lake drive is required. I think it took about 1 hour 15 minutes, and was told about 45 minutes hiking trails, walking while taking photographs. That came raining in the Middle it could not be too loose, so now the weather is nice, also wanted to visit.

  • A quick drive from Rotorua will take you to Blue Lake where you can relax and unwind. There is a nice trail for you to walk off the little beach. The lake itself is blue :) and quite nice area to come...  more »
  • Visited look out on a very rainy day. The lake was - a lake, not a lot else to see to be honest. The green lake also wasn't very green.
