Nightlife Wine Bar
For a taste of some of New Zealand's finest wines, include The Winery on your Queenstown itinerary. The centrally located winery remains one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, offering regular wine tasting classes and wine tours. An ideal option for visitors with limited time to explore the area, the establishment represents some 60 local vineyards and provides a convenient way to learn about local production under one roof. Create your own tasting tour using their self-service wine machines, allowing you to take your time and taste before you buy. Check online for guided tasting options with a wine expert. For The Winery and beyond, use our Queenstown travel itinerary planner to get the most from your Queenstown vacation.

  • The Winery have a selection of high end wines like Te Mata and Penfolds Grange for sampling. That means for a small amount of money (Grange was sampling at $35 per 25ml) you get to try one of the most prestigious wines. They have a healthy selection of wines from NZ as well as internationally and the service staff are helpful. If you are a keen wine drinker, The Winery will keep you entertained for hours. If you are not particular about your vinos, you will be better off getting your bottles from nearby supermarkets like Four Square because the prices are generally cheaper. However, if you are looking for good labels, The Winery will probably offer you some of the best in Queenstown.
  • Great way to try all the wines New Zealand has to offer, in a relaxed and affordable way. Nice calm and cozy atmosphere. Great way to spend an evening
  • A really fun, low pressure wine tasting experience with more options than any other winery I've ever been to. A great place to taste wines with a group of friends without having to listen to a sommelier. They don't have very many food options but the cheese platter was delicious.
  • A lot of wine choice. Outdoor seating. Nice and relax.
  • Awesome place to drop in for a pre-dinner drink and a cheese platter after a day on the slopes or just about anytime!! Staff (especially Oliver) were awesome, showing us around and sharing information on the different wines on show. We went back twice in our short stay!

Where to stay in Queenstown

To enjoy views of Lake Wakatipu in a luxury setting, try one of the many boutique and long-established hotels of the downtown area. As a resort town, Queenstown also offers a range of more modest accommodations, ideal for adventurers, backpackers, and those eager to spend more time outside than in. These come in the form of hostels, rental apartments, campsites, and suburban motels. A good local bus service provides connections between the downtown and suburban areas, and out to the surrounding attractions, and many accommodations offer package tours.
