Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / South Island / Otago Region / Queenstown / The Remarkables Ski Area
Shred some powder and take in the alpine scenery of The Remarkables Ski Area. This snow sport resort boasts a versatile terrain along with a wide range of facilities to appeal to experts and first-timers alike. An early learning center, designed for kids from three months to 15 years, helps young visitors build up their skills and confidence. After a long day on the slopes, refuel at the onsite restaurant, cafe, coffee bar, or, for an extraordinary experience, the mountaintop ice bar. With superb views and ample outdoor seating, including comfy beanbags, it comes as no surprise that this is one of the resort's most popular après-ski spots. Gear up at the snow-sport store, rental spot, and repair service, all contained in the resort. Awesome slopes for all levels of experience. Really well set up, with the base area for rental/toilets/storage/cafe etc. Good ski lifts, plenty of options. While there's car parks, the road up... more »

A very long winding road up the mountain with many hairliqne and steep side drops. The wife wasn't too happy but on the way there were many viewpoints to stop at. The tarmac road ended 9km before the ski resort that is On the other side of the mountain so we turned back as I didn't want to cause any damage to the hire car. Well worth the trip to see Queenstown from the other side.
Picturesque views driving up. Stunning ski area and the restaurant has mouth watering ribs.
As new visitors to Queenstown, we figure that a drive up to The Remarkable Ski Field would be a good way to get a panoramic view over the town, and we are rewarded with stunning views from on high. Be warned - if it’s blowing at all, it’s extremely chilling, so make sure you’re wrapped up warm if you wish to venture from your car. The road up is a mix of sealed and unsealed road, but our little Corolla rental has no difficulty in getting to the top of the car park. This might change in icy conditions with snow around, but our car is equipped with snow chains just in case.
We had a great 4 days at this versitile mountain. Had fun with lots of little jumps, rails, boxes and hills for beginners, they also catered well for advanced riders. There were some of smooth, gentle groomed runs, great for learning, but also no shortage of more difficult runs. Facilities were good, the large eating area means you can always find a spot to sit down and eat. It's a smaller mountain, but as they say, good things come in small packages.
