Mountain Ski Area
Shred some powder and take in the alpine scenery of The Remarkables Ski Area. This snow sport resort boasts a versatile terrain along with a wide range of facilities to appeal to experts and first-timers alike. An early learning center, designed for kids from three months to 15 years, helps young visitors build up their skills and confidence. After a long day on the slopes, refuel at the onsite restaurant, cafe, coffee bar, or, for an extraordinary experience, the mountaintop ice bar. With superb views and ample outdoor seating, including comfy beanbags, it comes as no surprise that this is one of the resort's most popular apr├Ęs-ski spots. Gear up at the snow-sport store, rental spot, and repair service, all contained in the resort. • The best ski area for absolute Beginners and Novices due to great magic carpets and large Flat "bunny slopes" adjacent to the lodge. Low level Intermediates will also really enjoy "Remarks" because of...  more »

  • Great slopes. Staff were really helpful, the runs were set up for beginners to advanced. Great place to learn or leave the learners behind.
  • I didn't go up here when the building was open. My visit was to walk the track upto Lake Alta. Beautiful views and crystal clear Lake. Best seen when it's snowy. There is a clean toilet in the car park! Well done.
  • Great for families and the experienced. Fresh powder is not always to hand, but the runs are fun, varied and the base camp is well equipped.
  • Fantastic place for skiing and snowboarding. Easy to get there by bus, equipment can be rented right at the mountain station. I had almost no wait at all of the lift stations.
  • New facilities. Very well maintained, very clean toilets, good coffee. Good hire equipment, with staff happy to help fit it. Beginners magic carpet lift very close to the cafe building and there is a wide beginners area. Only four chair lifts and there isn't a huge range of runs for intermediate skiers. Great road up to field with fabulous views. Ski field is in a bowl and weather can be quite different from Coronet Peak.

Where to stay in Queenstown

To enjoy views of Lake Wakatipu in a luxury setting, try one of the many boutique and long-established hotels of the downtown area. As a resort town, Queenstown also offers a range of more modest accommodations, ideal for adventurers, backpackers, and those eager to spend more time outside than in. These come in the form of hostels, rental apartments, campsites, and suburban motels. A good local bus service provides connections between the downtown and suburban areas, and out to the surrounding attractions, and many accommodations offer package tours.
