Queenstown Hill, Queenstown
(4.8/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
Walk the steep slope or follow the less strenuous winding trail to the top of Queenstown Hill, also known as the "mountain of intense sacredness," to enjoy a bird's-eye-view of the town, the surrounding mountains, and the lake. Near the top, you'll see a metal spiral sculpture on a stone foundation, called the "Basket of Dreams"--look for the plaque inscribed with a poem from the artist. Refuel at the hilltop restaurant or go carting if you are feeling more adventurous. Note that one of the trails to the top of the hill crosses private land; if you do see some livestock while hiking, keep a respectful distance. • It's less than an hour from Queenstown town. From the town to reach the trailhead from several arrow signs and signs are very good, but already continues uphill. Small parking lot and signs is the trailhead. Through the forest, such as the fork in the road on the left and right. To the Summit chose to short left. In the small lakes around 8.5 with eyes much, a bit more. Views from the top are great! Go down the paved road on the way back down from the mountains and beside the road, stairs alley shortcut to the town immediately; If you go down here, certainly near the town. Becoming a street seen from the observation deck at a later time, but certainly go down directly to a vertical zigzag trail road. Before climbing in this way from the bottom is used to people coming up here too hard the climbers. I think it should be made available on the way back.

  • Quite a steep walk up the Queenstown Hill but the views at the top are worth it. You need an average level to get to the too. It might take you a while with constant uphill but keep pushing through. I...  more »
