Hydro Attack, Queenstown

4.7
#40 of 131 in Outdoors in Queenstown
Head into the belly of the beast at Hydro Attack, a tour operator that takes you skidding over and under the waters in a shark-themed covered vessel. See Lake Wakatipu from above and below in a Seabreacher X watercraft, zipping across the waters at an intense 80 km/h (50 mph). Your driver will dive beneath the surface, take you leaping up into the air, then back down. The trip lasts 20 minutes, giving you a fresh perspective on the lake, the surrounding scenery, and what lies beneath. All visitors over six years of age can enjoy the experience. • OMG what a rush! Loved every second, was an exciting and unique way to see Queenstown. Captain Chris was great, he totally knows his way around that machine and has the perfect balance between exciting maneuvures while still taking in the scenery. I'd recommend that to anybody. Thanks again team!
  • Fantastic experience! My wife and I went out at the same time and we both absolutely loved the experience. This is a must do when visiting Queenstown.
  • Great bit of fun, really easy to organise, simple pre-ride check in with minimal mucking around and excellent staff. Little bit tame for avid thrill-seekers, but a great rush nonetheless (missus gives it 5/5).
  • Fantastic birthday surprise. The ride is incredible and despite looking scary you are tightly positioned in the craft so that the flight out of the water is not uncomfortable. The underwater experience is fantastic. All the people involved with this operation are friendly and very professional. It is clear that safety is their priority but having fun is top of the list too. Do this ride, you won't regret it.
  • Definitely a must-do. We had a lot of fun, and the views were just astonishing.

Where to stay in Queenstown

To enjoy views of Lake Wakatipu in a luxury setting, try one of the many boutique and long-established hotels of the downtown area. As a resort town, Queenstown also offers a range of more modest accommodations, ideal for adventurers, backpackers, and those eager to spend more time outside than in. These come in the form of hostels, rental apartments, campsites, and suburban motels. A good local bus service provides connections between the downtown and suburban areas, and out to the surrounding attractions, and many accommodations offer package tours.
