Te Paki Sand Dunes, Pukenui
(4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Swoosh down from the soft, slippery heights of Te Paki Sand Dunes, a popular sand boarding spot where deep blue sky meets mounds of pristine sand. The dunes are quite high and steep, so prepare to get the adrenaline pumping as you soar down and clamber back up again. You can bring your own boogie boards with hard, plastic bottoms, or opt to rent sand boards at one of the nearby kiosks. Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a scarf to avoid getting sand in your face; you should also bring along water and snacks, as there aren't any places to buy food. The sand gets very hot, so you might also bring socks to wear while sliding. • It fills up there like in the desert. Incredible. It is very windy. A Board to borrow and make sand surfing. Going up the dune is for fitness enthusiasts. My friend had great fun on it and is surfed down at least 10 times the dune. Since it is very windy, it is after the trip by sand overlook. And if it of sunny, necessarily apply cream, you notice because of the wind do not burn like the Sun. Tip: with the bed quite high, not on wet/damp sand begin to slip, forward slip lying down with the head and not slow down with your feet. Feet pull up, then you get speed nicely :) unique experience.

  • We didn't actually hire sand boards but we did climb the sand mountains and enjoyed the view from up there. It was like being in a desert. If I ever get a chance to visit again I'd love to spend more ...  more »
  • Rent a board before arriving, as there is only 1 mobile vendor that is stationed at the carpark, and may turn up only pretty late in the morning. The charge is $15 per board, and you have to leave eit...  more »
