Te Paki Sand Dunes, Pukenui
(4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Swoosh down from the soft, slippery heights of Te Paki Sand Dunes, a popular sand boarding spot where deep blue sky meets mounds of pristine sand. The dunes are quite high and steep, so prepare to get the adrenaline pumping as you soar down and clamber back up again. You can bring your own boogie boards with hard, plastic bottoms, or opt to rent sand boards at one of the nearby kiosks. Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a scarf to avoid getting sand in your face; you should also bring along water and snacks, as there aren't any places to buy food. The sand gets very hot, so you might also bring socks to wear while sliding. • Spent a happy hour watching as people plied their way, slowly, with sand boards up these huge dunes, descending at speed in seconds. Worth a visit
  • I did not rent a sand board but climbed the sand dunes. It was a very good workout. You take 2 steps up and 1 step slid down. The view of the water was amazing.
