Inspirock Rating:
5/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web
A stunning collection of sea-drowned valleys, Marlborough Sounds represents one of New Zealand's premier natural landscapes. The network includes around 4,000 sq km (1,544 sq mi) of sounds, islands, and peninsulas, and though sparsely populated by humans, the Department of Conservation manages over 50 nature preserves here. Hike through the verdant forests that rise from the sea, relax in the sheltered sandy bays, or sail the striking turquoise waters. If you plan on driving in the area, bear in mind that there are very few gas stations and fill your tank in advance. • The winding scenic route is good but narrow. Many look out points strategically placed offers wonderful views of the sound, We travelled from Nelson to Picton and it was well worth the choice.
  • We drove from Picton along the scenic drive along the coast to Nelson..beautiful! The scenery is breathtaking.
  • A fantastic place to get out on the water and enjoy life and the surrounding beauty. So many water activities to partake of!
