Wildlife Area
The whole family will find plenty to do at Lochmara Lodge Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Centre, dedicated to conserving the area's plant and animal life. Check out the endangered bird and gecko breeding enclosures, and take a self-guided tour through native forests to spot wildlife. Grab a kayak to explore the bay, and then cool off by jumping into the clear water. Stop into the art exhibit spaces to see the permanent collection of New Zealand art as well as temporary shows. Have a soak in the bath house or schedule a massage (reservations required for both). The attraction offers accommodations and a restaurant as well. If you stay a few days or longer, opt for a day or half-day tour that includes a boat cruise around the area. Note the attraction cannot be reached by car; water taxis from Picton are your best bet, but you can also come by kayak, floatplane, or the Queen Charlotte trail for walkers and mountain-bikers. Arrange to visit Lochmara Lodge Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Centre and other attractions in Picton using our Picton family vacation planner.
