Haruru Falls, Paihia

3.4
#3 of 6 in Parks in Paihia
When in Paihia, use the opportunity to take a break and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings of Haruru Falls. While at 5 m (16 ft) the waterfall may not be one of the tallest in New Zealand, it's definitely one of the easiest to reach. After a short walk over a well-maintained trail through lush nature, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the waterfall and relax on one of the benches. Despite not being very tall, the waterfall is fairly wide and carries a lot of water, especially during the colder months. If you're visiting when the weather is chillier, make sure to bring waterproof clothes to protect yourself from the spray. Beautiful waterfalls, lovely short walk to view, easy access and close to main road. Well worth a visit, a short distance from Paihia going North.  more »

Take the Waitangi track from the treaty grounds to the falls- it's one way so you could arrange pick up or turn around and walk back (5km each way, flat or small inclines). Driving to the falls just t...  more »

get there from paihia (cycling) is really impractical because there is a bike path or a pavement because the road is very up and down. Anything to get to the falls rather ridiculous a beer by the sea and some relaxation in Christchurch are much better

Beautiful walk from the treaty grounds, a decent level of fitness is required, but it's a fairly easy 5km. Definitely try to coincide with high tide on your walk to or from the falls as the mangroves look brilliant when the river level is high.

Nice waterfall in Pahia that you can drive or hike to. We ended up driving and the walk is about 5 minutes from where you park. A bunch of crazy chickens ran up to our car wanting food and we had to make sure we didn't run them over when we left lol. Overall the waterfall is pretty nice, and about a dozen or so people where there at the same time we were. Worth the drive if you are passing by.

Easily accessible falls for walking at least. Quite small compared to others like Whangarei but always neat. Cool rainbow effects in the afternoon sun too. Kids will definitely enjoy being near them. Also, idk why, but there always seems to be chickens walking about near the parking areas?

Walked to the Falls on a lovely sunny day! Definitely worth a trip though not as high as Rainbow Falls further north near Kerikeri it's wider.

We did the kayak up & walk back. Nice easy walk back with the kids (though it is a long walk for their little legs). The falls were pretty enough but if I had my time again I'd probably go sea kayaking to the islands instead
