Haruru Falls, Paihia

3.5
#2 of 6 in Nature in Bay of Islands
When in Paihia, use the opportunity to take a break and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings of Haruru Falls. While at 5 m (16 ft) the waterfall may not be one of the tallest in New Zealand, it's definitely one of the easiest to reach. After a short walk over a well-maintained trail through lush nature, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the waterfall and relax on one of the benches. Despite not being very tall, the waterfall is fairly wide and carries a lot of water, especially during the colder months. If you're visiting when the weather is chillier, make sure to bring waterproof clothes to protect yourself from the spray. • Lovely walk from waitangi to the falls. Walking through Bush and mangroves. It's a 5km walk each way and took me 1hr each way at a good pace.. No benches on route to sit and rest.  more »
  • We walked from Paihia town along the walking track via the mangrove boardwalk to the falls. The falls themselves are not going to blow your mind but they are a nice ending to the walk. If the weathers...  more »
  • Easy to drive to with a short path to view the falls. Close to town so no long drive either. Liked the chooks.  more »

  • The Haruru Falls are beautiful. They're a great place for kayaking at the bottom of the water fall, and above it there are rock pools with lots of little creatures in them to find. It was definitely a nice place to stop for a break on our roadtrip and I would recommend it to others passing through.
  • Although the waterfall quite small, it's quite wide, and the view is quite nice. For me, looking at it from a far is much more appealing compared to see up close. You can kayak close to the bottom of the waterfall if you want.
  • Nice wee spot. The falls themselves aren’t overly impressive, many more larger falls in New Zealand. Great swimming spot though and looks like a nice place to kayak to up the river. If you’re in the area worth a pop by.
  • These Haruru Falls are not the biggest you will find in Northern New Zealand but nevertheless they are certainly beautiful and well worth a visit. The falls are only 3.6 kilometres from Paihia, less than ten minutes away if you are driving. There is a large car park available and you can easily park on the side of the road adjacent to the falls. We'll worth a visit if you are holidaying in the Bay of Islands.
  • Very nice place to stop at and check out the waterfall. It's a quick stop, only expect to be there for 5 - 10 minutes for picture opportunities! There's also a walking track here, but it's not a short one.
