Haruru Falls, Paihia

3.4
#3 of 6 in Parks in Paihia
When in Paihia, use the opportunity to take a break and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings of Haruru Falls. While at 5 m (16 ft) the waterfall may not be one of the tallest in New Zealand, it's definitely one of the easiest to reach. After a short walk over a well-maintained trail through lush nature, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the waterfall and relax on one of the benches. Despite not being very tall, the waterfall is fairly wide and carries a lot of water, especially during the colder months. If you're visiting when the weather is chillier, make sure to bring waterproof clothes to protect yourself from the spray. • Fairly average waterfall. A nice little bushwalk is located near the falls. The best thing about it was you didn't have to drive far to see.  more »
  • Personally thought the waterfalls were quite small and uneventful (I guess they might be okay for swimming and relaxing in) Have seen bigger and better ones but wouldn't waste a day trip or anything t...  more »
  • Nice falls but the best way to visit them is by canoe and peddle into the mangroves. Make sure you don’t get lost or drift away with the current. On windy days you can get there by car.  more »

  • Small rock waterfall that's easy to access from the main road. See kayakers brave the rush of water and people defying the signs against diving. Goes out to the bay.
  • Nice falls within walking distance to carpark. Chicken family greeted us there.
  • Big waterfall quite worth a visit if you pass by.
  • Free natural place good for photos and is near to a small seating area in the outdoors
  • Beautiful walk from the treaty grounds, a decent level of fitness is required, but it's a fairly easy 5km. Definitely try to coincide with high tide on your walk to or from the falls as the mangroves look brilliant when the river level is high.

Where to stay in Paihia

As a welcoming tourist town, Paihia offers a range of accommodations suitable for visitors with a diverse set of criteria. Boutique hotels and self-catered apartments dot along the coast, some offering excellent views of the bay on request. While most lodgings are located in the town center, farther out you can find campsites and resorts that, because of the settlement's modest size, still put you within walking distance or a short car journey of the wharf and town center.
