Bushy Beach, Oamaru

Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Inspirock Rating:
3.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Bushy Beach is not just any beach--it holds the last remaining natural coastal vegetation in the area and supports native wildlife like penguins. True to its name, the shoreline is decorated with shrubbery like hebe, ngaio, and broadleaf. The attraction provides several outlooks where visitors can spot yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals, and occasionally sea lions and elephant seals. Be sure to dress very warmly to avoid shivering in the strong winds. Visitors are only allowed on the beach when the penguins are not there (usually between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.). If you're visiting before or after that time, head to one of the viewing points to watch the lovable creatures come ashore and feed. Note that beach access is prohibited from November to March, when penguins may be feeding with their young at any time of day. • To see penguins it should have patience and go in the afternoon, after the 5 because they return home from that time and always passes one first that explores everything and then returns to find others that arrive half an hour later. Carries a few sandwiches and shelter that gets cold and windy. Recommendation carries vinoculares, because they are a bit far from the wheelhouse of sighting and if the idea is to bring camera one with good lens because cell phones draw small pictures.
