Cape Reinga, North Island

(4.7/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Marvel at land's end on rugged Cape Reinga, a wild peninsula at the far corner of the island where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet. Travel out to the lighthouse for a sweeping view over the expanse of blue water, marked by occasionally roiling whitecaps where the ocean and sea touch. Continue out to the far tip of the cape to see the famed pohutukawa tree, which has supposedly stood at this location for more than eight centuries. This point remains an important fixture in Maori mythology, as it marks the spot where spirits leave this world during their journey to the afterlife. With our international travel planner, Kihikihi attractions like Cape Reinga can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • This beautiful place, incomparable panoramic views, converge in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea, which gives rise to the formation of permanent marine vortices. An old Lighthouse Crown place that was considered by the ancients of the Maori as the site where the souls of those who die leave towards the other world. It's the upper tip of the North Island of New Zealand, a geographical point open but to enter which have to disinfect the soles of your shoes, something very common in natural places of this country, which has strict rules for the conservation of the ecosystem. The car journey from Auckland to Cape Reinga is approximately 4 hours but it is worthwhile since the exuberant beauty of New Zealand landscapes appear in every curve of the road.

  • Here one encounters breathtaking natural surroundings and great landscaped paths. There are many parking lots and at the entrance of a large house with toilets. The parking and the entrance is completely free. You should go to the lighthouse, because the view is really breathtaking.
