Agrodome, Ngongotaha

4.2
Experience life on a New Zealand farm, learn about traditional farming and herding skills, and meet the friendly and cuddly animals at Agrodome. Founded by world-champion sheep shearer Godfrey Bowen back in 1971, the 160 hectare (350 acre) complex serves as both a popular tourist attraction and a fully operating sheep and cattle farm. From the shows displaying various sheep breeds and the clever herding dogs, to the shearing museum and animal nursery, the farm showcases all aspects of rural living in New Zealand. At the farm's kiosk you can find freshly brewed coffee and a selection of snacks. Several ticket packages are available, which you can purchase online. • We happened upon this by the reviews in trip advisor. So glad we found it. It was a fun and educational show and we had a blast The sheep (13 types) were something to see and the shearing was fun to w...  more »
  • We only saw the show. And fortunately!! No translation in French despite the presence of headphones for several languages. Even if we manage in English hard to follow everything. Show is exactly the word that suits, more the show of the demonstrator than that of the sheep, which did me very their promontory and at the end of the demonstration harassed by clouds of person for a photo! Bad reception at the entrance (we had reserved the places on their site with a unique bank number which does not exist a priori not in NZ or at least at the Agrodrome!) The person was ready to make us pay again... And told us to take the tickets to the counter next time. Obviously we had a discount via the site of the agronomist!! There will be for us not next time even if we go back in. NZ we were well informed not to reserve the tour of the farm in view of the whole wagons walked only in the fields for an exorbitant price!! We do not recommend except may be with small children what they might like.

  • Skillfully conducted this event brings sheep farming closer to those who have no idea about it. The working sheep dog is the attraction. The presenter is adept at making mundane things like milking a ...  more »

  • Love the sheep show! The presenter is so hilarious! The sheep are so plump and cute. You even get to feed them and the alpaca. Do watch for the dung on the grass. You can also enjoy a cup of refreshing kiwi juice and their mixed honey.
  • It’s an auditorium where u even get translation in various other languages if you don’t understand English. It was beautiful, to be able to see all the different kinds of sheep at a go. Their wool and the funny shepherd made it even more interesting. Saw sheep sheering, it didn’t seem like the sheep was being hurt, but it felt like a warm sweater was snatched away leaving the sheep bare-bones. Even the dogs were amazing. I didn’t get a chance to take out milk from the cows but this entire natural process is awe-striking. Parking is liberally available, they make sure there is enough space. The souvenir shop is Damn expensive but the wool is pure. I bought a head cap. The sweaters are so soft, feels like they will melt away on your hand. This is a reliable place to buy sweaters.
  • Loved it! The staff was very informative and I got free kiwi juice and honey. Definitely will recommend others to go there.
  • The sheep show was educational and good fun for children and adults alike. The presenter was super funny and entertaining, you also learn how a sheep is sheared along with a few members of the audience getting to milk a cow!
  • A great experience for the family. The show was really entering for adults and kids alike, and the ability to pet the sheep and dogs after the show was a lot of fun. We also went on the farm tour which is done on a trailer towed by a tractor, while tour guide told the story of the particular farm as well as New Zealand farming in general. With a few stops to feed and pet the animals, and taste local honey and kiwifruit juice, it really was an amazing way to spend the morning.
